The Frog...
“I think the silent majority — the people of this country — will have the last word on this matter.” Ray Flynn
Society these days reminds me of the ‘boiling the frog’ analogy. Throw the frog in a boiling pot and he jumps right out - mad as hell and certainly voicing his displeasure! But, in contrast, put him in a pot of cool water, and then slowly, ever so slowly, turn up the heat and the frog won’t realize what’s happening until it’s too late and he’s cooked! So it is with the silent majority. Those in the SM have had the small little injustices subtly imparted on them over decades. A tax here, a regulation there, a small war here, a sliding of a moral standard there, eroding of currency here, constant media saying it’s ok, etc, etc, etc. This has been done so subtly over time that is hard to notice. (BTW, how do you know if you’re in the SM? I would contend that if you are not the one stirring the pot, or turning up the heat on the pot, then you are part of the SM - a frog in the pot).
Here lately it seems, for various reasons, the heat has suddenly been turned up more quickly - so much so that it is no longer subtle - no longer hidden. It’s enough for the SM to notice and begin to wake up to what is going on. Look world-wide and you can see it happening with increasing frequency. It seems fairly likely this process will accelerate…but we will see.
Anyway, from what I’ve seen, (and perhaps you may have seen differently) it seems this ‘waking up’ process (ie, noticing you’re being cooked) is a time variable thing. For some its quick, for some it’s a very long, and for some it’s very painful. There are even some that seem to enjoy the pot!
I think the thing to remember is that we, the silent majority (the frogs in the pot) have to stick together. We must have patience with each other. When it gets hotter and more stressful, we might be tempted to look at those in the pot with us and be angry with them. Instead, I would suggest, we should be waking up to those who are ‘throwing fuel on the fire’ and ‘stirring the pot’ to get us angry at each other instead of them. When the majority of us awaken to the real culprits, then, as a ‘united’ majority, we will definitely be silent no longer….
